Commissions

Your space, in hand-cut tile.

A poolside panel. A fireplace surround. A backsplash. A memorial portrait. A piece for a pet you miss. If it can be imagined, Janet can build it in glass, ceramic, and stone.

What's possible

Commissions Janet has built.

Every project is different, but most fit one of these shapes. If yours doesn't, say so in the form. She loves a harder brief.

Furniture & one-off pieces

Side tables, wall portraits, memorial pieces, gifts. Worked from your reference material, rendered with restraint so the piece reads as art.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises.

Consult

You send photos, dimensions, and the story of the space. Janet replies within two business days with questions and a rough feasibility note.

Design

She sketches two or three directions, then refines the one you pick into a full-scale pattern. Material and color samples shipped to you.

Build

Once the design is signed off, Janet builds the mosaic in her studio. Larger pieces go in mesh-backed sections for shipping.

Install / Ship

She can travel to install large pieces in Texas and the surrounding states, or coordinate with your contractor anywhere in the world.

Case study: Lobster & Princess.

A husband and wife in Austin, known to each other as Lobster and Princess, asked Janet for a mosaic to live in the custom space beside their pool. The brief was a short love letter: the animals they love, together. Koi for calm. Turtles for patience. A cast of tropical fish for colour. And, worked quietly into the tile somewhere, a small lobster and a small princess. A private joke, set in glass.

Planning

Timeline and investment.

Every commission is one of a kind, so every commission is quoted one of a kind. Janet prices each project individually against its size, complexity, material, number of hand-cut colors, and whether on-site installation is included. As a frame of reference for timing:

  • Portraits and small panels (under 2 ft): typically 3–6 weeks
  • Fireplaces, backsplashes, wall panels, architectural inlays: typically 6–12 weeks
  • Poolside installations, multi-panel builds, full-room work: typically 3–6 months

Send your project brief and Janet will reply with a written quote within two business days. Quotes are firm once you approve the design. 50% deposit to begin, 50% on completion.
